Representative For Assemblymember Jim Cooper, Democratic Challenger Harry He Tangle on Proposed Bail Reform

April 11, 2018 |

Although it was a blip on the political radar, an exchange at a forum for Democratic candidates highlighted some of the differences between the two candidates seeking the 9th California Assembly District seat.

The exchange occurred at the Tuesday, April 10 meeting of the Elk Grove-South County Democratic Club meeting where candidates were seeking endorsements for the June primary.  The dialogue was between Skyler Wonnacott who was representing two-term Assemblymember Jim Cooper and his fellow Democrat Harry He.

The exchange and the counterclaims between the two came after a club member asked Wonnacott about Cooper's position on bail reform, which as an issue of social justice, has gained traction during the current election cycle. Mr. He said he supports bail reform, while Cooper, who is a retired Sacramento County Sheriff's Department captain has taken a more cautious approach.

Below is a recording of that exchange.
