Ly Wins Elk Grove Democratic Mayoral Endorsement; Club Also Issues Support for City Council, CCSD Candidates

In a highly anticipated meeting of the Elk Grove-South County Democratic Club, membership voted tonight for endorsement in several local races. The highest-profile contest of the night was the endorsement for Elk Grove mayor.
In the meeting held at the Wilton Community Center in Wilton. Steve Ly beat the two opponents, both Democrats, challenging him for the mayoral position he was first elected to in 2016.
Out of 99 ballots casts, Ly won 70 votes, followed by Tracie Stafford who earned 21, and Darren Suen who captured 7. There was one vote of no endorsement.
In other endorsements, club members voted to endorse two candidates, Jaclyn Moreno and Rod Brewer, for the two open seats on the Cosumnes Community Services District Board of Directors. Along with Moreno and Brewer, a third candidate, Koi Rivers, had sought the endorsement.
Moreno earned 85 votes while Brewer won 78. Rivers, who submitted endorsement paperwork, but did not participate in the forum before the vote gathered six votes.
In the other two club endorsements for Elk Grove City Council, Andres Ramos who is running for the District 2 seat against incumbent Republican Pat Hume was endorsed with 71 votes. Orlando Fuentes, who is challenging Democratic incumbent Stephanie Ngueyn for the District 4 seat, was unchallenged by Nguyen in the endorsement proceedings and capture the club's support with of 87 voting members.

I'm voting for Suen because he will be the only civil engineer on Council.
D.J., you nailed it. Darren Suen also made statements about being "the most educated" on the Elk Grove City Council and that he needs to be Mayor so that he can "tell staff what to do." I guess Suen forgot that Elk Grove is a council-manager form of government and the city manager actually runs the city.
So maybe Suen should resign from the Elk Grove City Council and seek a job as a city manager. And as it happens, Elk Grove is about to hire one.
