The Associated Press has projected Democratic Congressman Dr. Ami Bera has won a fourth term representing California's 7th District. Bera defeated Republican Andrew Grant.

For Bera, who has experienced three razor thin victories, this cycle it is the first time he was declared victory within hours, not day or weeks later. Bera previous defeated incumbent Dan Lungren in 2012, followed by former Congressman Doug Ose in 2014, and Sacramento County Sheriff Scott Jones in 2016.

Unlike his previous narrow victories, the National Republican Congression Committee did not invest heavily in the district choosing instead to dedicate resources to several seats they had hoped to preserve. In previous election cycles the battle for the district, that is confined to Sacrament County, had been among the most expensive congressional battles in the country.

According to most recent tallies posted by the Sacramento County Board of Elections, Bera has 52-percent with 49,885 votes.
