On Wednesday, December 5, Jaclyn Moreno was sworn in for her first term on the Cosumnes Community Services District Board of Directors.

After taking her oath, Moreno made a brief presentation (watch the video here) with language that was decidedly progressive.

An interesting proposition Mr. Gougherty. The key word in this segment is “courageously,” although for these comments I will use courage.

Will the three directors have the courage to stand by their principle, or will they be seduced by the power and ultimately the influence of money? A good case study is Elk Grove Councilman Steve Detrick.

Your readers may recall candidate Mr. Detrick took several reform-minded stances when he first ran in 2010. However, it didn’t take long for Mr. Detrick, for a variety of reasons, to abandon those issues and those who supported him, once he became seduced by campaign money. I would dare to say those avid 2010 supporters were, if I may, Gary Davised by Mr. Detrick.

To answer the question of whether the three CCSD Directors will have the courage to stay true to their beliefs, if we use other local politicians as a gauge, I sadly say no. The seduction of power and especially money will make almost every politician abandon any reform-minded initiatives they might pursue.

Perhaps we can introduce a new expression into our local political lexicon. When someone abandons their supposed principles for a quick buck, we can say they went full Detrick.

Capt. Willard's analogy is spot on. One correction, Steve Detrick was first elected to the Elk Grove City Council in 2008. It was in 2010 when the "Full Detrick" kicked in.

All I can say is, "Shame on us!"

Davis and Detrick both were easily swallowed up by the allure of the power and the almighty buck. I can recall when both were leaders of the people. As stated and documented, both failed miserably to stand by their campaign promises and do what was best for the city and it's citizenry.
Unfortunately, EG voters are too apathetic to recognize it or more importantly do anything about it.
Traffic problems? Poor planning? Lack of road maintenance fees? I could go on, but nothing will change until we vote new blood into the council.

Yes, shame on us.

Let’s keep in mind a few things, correct me if I am wrong but if they would vote in by District voting with out voter approval the district would have to spend thousands of dollars to make districts that more than one Director would live in that District. Then after 2020 census thousands of more dollars would be spent again to realign districts by Federal law. I believe there isn’t another election until 2020 and given the state of the parks in districts 3 and 6 it would be a waste of money, resources. As they may complain that different ethnic groups our left out of the process but now with Director Lazano is no longer a Director the city of Galt is left out of being represented. More ethnic minorities on the fire department I think Moreno, Fuentes, Brewer might want to look in the mirror and wonder why they aren’t doing more with the amount of Progressive Liberal supporters that they have not doing more to bring candidates to the Department. It shouldn’t just be up to CCSD, Fire Department, or the City to get candidates of different minorities. It is time for them to stop complaining an work their own social networking.
