Even with its abundance of national chain restaurants, Elk Grove fails in attracting the most desired upscale outlets

Although Elk Grove has an abundance of large national restaurant chain's like this Applebee's on East Stockton Boulevard,
more upscale chains have eschewed the city. |

Even though Elk Grove has a well-deserved reputation to be home to a multitude of pedestrian national chain restaurants, when it comes to those chains most popular with travelers, the city falls short. That is the conclusion based on a recent study released by the world's largest travel website, TripAdvisor

In a study released today, the Needham, Massachusetts-based website announced a new ranking of the top restaurant chains in the U.S. based on millions of reviews and comments posted from TripAdvisor diners.

In their first-ever list, TripAdvisor highlights 30 restaurant chains of all types – inclusive of fine dining, casual dining, quick service, and fast casual. Honorees are classified into three categories, small, medium, and large, based on the number of property locations in TripAdvisor's listings.
Rankings for each restaurant chain were determined using an algorithm that took into account the quality, quantity, and recency of reviews from all of a chain's property locations that were listed on TripAdvisor during a 12-month period.
"Chain restaurants are integral to the American dining experience as they offer consumers convenient and satisfying meals for all occasions," Bertrand Jelensperger, senior vice president for TripAdvisor Restaurants said. "For the first time, TripAdvisor is ranking restaurant chains that provide exemplary food, service, and value to diners. Every company featured in these rankings should be proud of the recognition they are receiving from TripAdvisor's community of millions of travelers and locals searching our site for a great place to eat."
Among the 30 restaurants listed, Elk Grove had none in the small chains, those restaurants with 10 to 50 locations or the medium-sized chains, and three in the large national chains. Those restaurants in Elk Grove listed in the survey include In-N-Out Burger, and Texas Roadhouse, which has an Elk Grove address but lies outside city limits.

The third, Elk Grove's Corner Bakery Cafe, recently closed. A sign posted at their time of closing said the location would reopen as a Blaze Pizza store, which is included in the top 10 of large national chains.

While Elk Grove demographics are unattractive for the upscale chains, the new shopping center located near the Elk Grove Costco store called The Ridge will reportedly be home to several standard national chains in 2019. Among the large chains expected to locate to the shopping center on the corner of Bruceville Road and Elk Grove Boulevard are Starbucks, Olive Garden, and Buffalo Wild Wings.

What our city lacks in chain restaurants, it more than makes up with an abundance of cultural activities and open space! Plus, we have our very own Swimmin' Hole under construction and due to open sometime this decade!
