Weekend DUI, drivers license checkpoint scheduled by Elk Grove Police

December 27, 2018 |

As part of their annual increased Holiday enforcement, the Elk Grove Police has scheduled a driver license and DUI checkpoint.

The checkpoint will be conducted on Friday, December 28, from 7 p.m until 3 a.m. on Saturday, December 29. The location of the checkpoint was not disclosed.

As a reminder, law enforcement officials say impaired driving is not caused solely by the consumption of alcohol. Marijuana, prescription drugs and over-the-counter medications can also be impairing, especially in combination with alcohol or other drugs.

“Drunk driving continues to be a huge problem in this country, and more recently, marijuana and drug-impaired driving,” Lieutenant Dan Schnepple of the Elk Grove Police Department said. “People are out and about shopping for the holidays and going to or hosting parties, so it is important that everyone acts responsibly behind the wheel.”

Funding for impaired driving enforcement operations are provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
