Weekend traffic advisory issued for Elk Grove half-mararthon



To facilitate the 8th annual half marathon in Elk Grove, The Running of the Elk, a weekend traffic advisory has been issued.

From the City of Elk Grove 

The race start and finish line returns to Long Leaf Drive, situated midway between Laguna and Elk Grove Boulevards. Race activities begin at 7:30 am at8260 Longleaf Drive. Proceeds from the event benefit the Elk Grove Youth Sports Foundation (EGYSF), an Elk Grove non-profit organization created to ensure that all Elk Grove children have an equal opportunity to be involved in sports.
A traffic plan has been created and road closures and detours will be in effect from 6:30 am. to 12:30 p.m.

Here are the closures for the April 7th event.

  • Long Leaf Drive, the start, finish and festival area, will be closed beginning Saturday, April 6.
  • Laguna Springs Drive will be closed to through traffic from 7- 11 a.m.
  • Elk Grove Blvd between Big Horn and Auto Center Drive will be closed from 7-9 a.m.
  • The entire Auto Center Drive area will be closed from 7-9 a.m.
  • West Stockton Blvd between Laguna Grove Drive and Kyler Road will be closed from 7-9 a.m.
  • Colton Avenue between Elk Grove Blvd. and Orton Street will be closed from 7-10:30 a.m. Local residents will be allowed access via escort, but should expect delays.
  • Elk Grove Florin Road between Bond Road and Elk Grove Blvd will be closed from 7-10:30 a.m. Local residents will be allowed access via escort, but should expect delays. One westbound lane of Elk Grove Blvd will be blocked with the speed limit reduced to 25 mph between Elk Grove Florin Road and the creek trail before Emerald Oak Drive.  Residents will be allowed access via Williamson Drive, but should expect delays.
