Elk Grove man held on attempted murder, arson charges after argument with roommate

An Elk Grove man is in custody at the county after an argument with a roommate led to arson and attempted murder charges have been filed.

Just before 3 p.m. on Tuesday, May 21, Shawn Viramontes, 37 was in an argument with a roommate at a residence on the 8700 block of Valley Oak Lane. Viramontes allegedly made a threat against other occupants in the dwelling and set fire to his bedroom.

After setting the fire, Viramontes fled the residence but was located in a nearby neighborhood by responding Elk Grove Police officers. Viramontes is held on three felony charges including arson and attempted murder, is not eligible for release and will be arraigned on Thursday, May 23.
