Albright named new Chief of Elk Grove Police

Capt. Timothy Albright has been hired as Elk Grove's new police chief.

In a press release issued this afternoon, the longtime member of the Elk Grove Police department will succeed Bryan Noblett as the city's fourth police chief. Albright was selected by Elk Grove city manager Jason Behrmann.

“I have great confidence in Captain Albright’s ability to lead the Elk Grove Police Department," Behrmann said in the statement. "He earned this appointment by demonstrating a deep understanding and love of our diverse community and a desire to continue to build on the successes of the Department."

The process to fill the position came after Noblett announced his retirement last April. As part of the recruitment process, a nationwide search was conducted and the city held a workshop to gather community input.

“When we talk about diversity and inclusion, we often focus on racial and ethnic characteristics and that may be selling ourselves short of diversity in experience and upbringing,” Elk Grove Mayor Steve Ly said in the announcement. “Captain Albright grew up in a non-traditional household, similar to the many students that I work with at juvenile hall. I believe his understanding and compassion for disadvantaged kids and families, combined with his law enforcement knowledge, skills, and abilities, will provide him with a solid base for leading the police department.”

Albright joined newly formed Elk Grove Police force in 2006 as one of the department's first employees. He has held other positions in the department including patrol sergeant, canine sergeant, detective sergeant, patrol watch commander, Professional Standards commander, Investigations Division commander, and Operations Division commander.

Originally a member of the Placer County Sheriff's department in 1994, Albright joined the Sacramento Sheriff's department one year later. Albright and his wife Kristina, and their three children have called Elk Grove home since 1997.

Albright will be sworn in on September 3.

An expected and great choice to lead our police dept. He knows the city and has been a member of it for years. His record as an officer is impeccable. The city did something right. Glad to see it. Congrats Chief Albright! Well done.
