An Elk Grove man prohibited from possessing weapons is in custody at the county jail after he allegedly fired a handgun during a domestic violence incident.

Just after 4 p.m. on Sunday, September 1, Elk Grove Police responded to a reported domestic violence incident. Police determined that Ferdale Huey, 35, was attempting to choke his victim, brandished a gun, fired a round into the ground and threatened his victim.

At the time of the incident, children were inside the dwelling. A consent search of the residence led to the discovery of four firearms, firearm accessories, and ammunition which Huey, as a convicted felon, was prohibiting from possessing.

Huey's held on one misdemeanor and seven felony weapons and domestic violence charges. Arraignment is on Wednesday, September 4.
