An early morning incident on Saturday, October 19 in Live Oak has led to major injuries for a California Highway Patrol officer.

According to the CHP, at 1:11 a.m this morning officers responded to a call of a malfunctioning railroad crossing sign at SR-99 at Lomo Crossing. While directing traffic, a gray SUV traveling at a high rate of speed failed to stop for the railroad crossing sign and struck a CHP Officer. 

The officer sustained major injuries and was transported to the hospital. The driver of the SUV was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. 

The suspect, Lucas Julian Nelson, 21, have been booked into the Sutter County Jail.
