Suspect arrested by Lodi Police for allegedly firing handgun after traffic accident

A Lodi man was arrested after he allegedly discharged a shotgun after a vehicle accident.

Just before noon on Monday, November 18, Lodi Police responded to the 800 block of South Washington Street after they received calls of gunshot fires and a vehicle collision. Responding officers learned a vehicle had crashed into two parked cars and the owners of the vehicles got into an altercation with the driver.

Johnny Diaz (pictured below), 26, of Lodi pulled out a gun during the altercation and discharged it. Fortunately, no one was struck by gunfire.

After firing his weapon, Diaz fled into a nearby house with the firearm. Officers searched the residence Diaz ran to and located the firearm used in the shooting, along with a sawed-off shotgun and a stolen handgun.

Diaz was arrested and charged with assault, and multiple firearms-related charges.
