DUI-driver's license checkpoint this weekend; increased enforcement by Elk Grove Police through Holidays

As part of their annual Holiday enforcement, the Elk Grove Police will have started increased patrols and will be conducting an impaired and driver's license checkpoint.

The checkpoint will be conducted on Friday, December 20 between 7 p.m. and 3 am on December 21. The location of the checkpoint has not been disclosed.

“Unfortunately, this time of year is when we see more people driving impaired,” Lieutenant Eric White said. “There is no excuse for driving after drinking or using drugs that impair. There are many ways to get home safely without driving.”

Along with the checkpoint, starting last week EGPD has increased patrol for drivers suspected of being under the influence of alcohol and or drugs. The public is also reminded that impaired driving is not just from alcohol. Prescription medications, over-the-counter drugs and marijuana can also impair, especially in combination with alcohol and other drugs.
