Peaceful protest march planned to Elk Grove Police Department to express grievances, police defunding

According to information posted on social media this evening, a protest march is planned for this Wednesday morning in Elk Grove.

The march is in support of the Black Lives Matter movement although it is not being organized by the civil rights organization.

The event organizers said the marchers will meet at 10 a.m. at Colton Park on Laguna Springs Drive and march to the Elk Grove City Hall and Police Department which are about a five minute walk away.

The posting on social media says protestors will march to the civic center facilities to "to express their grievances with and frustrations about police brutality.  Additionally, organizers says they will "demand the police be DEFUNDED and for an outside Civilian Oversight Committee to be formed to police the EGPD."

Also, the posting linked to a report card for law enforcement agencies in California. The report, which is generated by Campaign Zero included the grade for Elk Grove Police which can be viewed here and the key findings here.

With all of the citizen apathy in this town's 20-year history, it is refreshing to know that many marchers will realize for the first time that we even have a City Hall!

You are so right D.J. If they spent time participating with their city government instead of trying to abolish the police they might actually make a real difference. Good luck with their efforts.
