Elk Grove Planning Commission rescheduled after city experienced network problems; vendor network failed

As a result of the network problems experienced by the City of Elk Grove, last night's regularly scheduled planning commission was rescheduled. The rescheduled meeting will be held via teleconference on Tuesday, February 9 at 6 p.m

Starting at about noon on Thursday, the city and police department's websites were inaccessible because of a vendor hardware problem.

In a statement issued by Elk Grove public information officer Kristyn Laurence, "Our vendor is reporting that the root cause points to a hardware failure. This outage affected not only the city website but a number of their other clients. They can confirm that this incident is not cybersecurity related. They’ve started the process of restoring service to customers and we are hopeful to be back online soon."

Earlier today, portions of the city's website were restored with links to the planning commission meeting agenda and next Wednesday's regular city council meeting. Links on the agenda to staff reports are not yet available.

I hope the city council scrutinizes the city manager on the performance of this vendor, that is unless the problem isn't resolved by next week. Can you imagine have a private-sector business having a network failure for over 24 hours? I don't recall seeing a failure like this since dial-up days!

A friend suggested they should set up shop at McDonalds and use their free Wi-Fi.

With a new planning commission to be appointed on the 10th by Mayor BSA, I hope city staff postpones the CNU EIR Scoping meeting scheduled for the next week.

Certainly the new planning commissioners will need more than a week to get up to speed on what's expected of them. And they will certainly need time to educated themselves on this controversial project. Moreover, it will give the residents time to meet with the new commissioners and not just with the developers and and snake-oil consultants on the CNU project (ergo, The Mayor Emeritus).

Eye, I totally agree. The CNU matter needs to be rescheduled. It would be a disservice to the community as well as CNU without careful, deliberate and informed research and decision.
Everyone on this site should petition the Commissioners to remove this item from the agenda for the time being.
