Jaclyn Moreno formally announces Board of Supervisor candidacy, will conduct 'listening tour' over the next year

In an email sent early this morning, Jacklyn Moreno has formally announced her candidacy for the District 5 seat on the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors. That seat is currently held by Don Nottoli was is expected to vacate it following the end of his term in 2022.

Last week Moreno acknowledged that she would run for the position and said that she would formally announce it on March 1. Nottoli has held the seat since 1994 and is the longest-serving current member of the board of supervisors.

In her announcement, Moreno, who is a Democrat, cited her work in mental health, said the COVID-19 pandemic had highlighted the importance of public health. She said her participation in a blue ribbon county commission was eye-opening.

The statement said, "Through this crisis, it has been absolutely heartbreaking to see kids struggling to get diagnoses, let alone services. The same is true for our frontline essential workers, families and seniors."

Moreno was first elected to the Cosumnes Community Services District Board of Directors in 2018. In that race, Moreno came in first place ahead of two incumbent for three open seats on the board.

Over the next year, Moreno said she will conduct "a listening tour working collaboratively with different stakeholders to identify additional priorities and to come up with potential solutions."

Although Nottoli has not formally announced his intentions, the anticipated vacancy has drawn interest from several candidates. Former Elk Grove Mayor Gary Davis is exploring a run, while Elk Grove City Councilmember Stephanie Nguyen said she too is studying a candidacy but said she would defer a formal announcement until Nottoli states his intentions.

Should Nottoli not seek an eight-term, a large field of elected officials candidates from the municipalities and agencies in the district are expected to enter the June 2022 primary. As the largest geographic district, Area 5 includes Elk Grove, Galt, Isleton, Rancho Cordova, and large portions of unincorporated Sacramento County.

If no candidate receives over 50-percent of the popular vote in the primary, the top two finishers will advance to the November 2022 general election.

I guess she decided to not wait until March 1st to formally announce and is shitfitng the campaign into high gear already! Wonder if Stephanie Nguyen also putting feelers out there had anything to do with it? I can see voter fatigue setting in pretty quick, but the checks from Granite Bay never have fatigue I guess.

Why couldn't Jaclyn Moreno give Don Nottoli the respect he deserves and wait until he announced his retirement from the BOS?

Nottoli has been one of the kindest, long-serving public servants, always mindful of others. Too bad Moreno couldn't return the favor when it comes to Nottoli. Moreno is showing us who she is right now and it is not pretty.

Isn't it interesting that those hungry for Jim Cooper's Assembly seat are waiting until he makes his final decision to run for Sheriff before they announce?

I think this is a plus for Stephanie Nguyen because Moreno's actions could backfire. Reminds me of the money-hungry family vultures who can't wait until the body is cold before wanting to see how much they are getting in the will.
