Galt Police officer succumbs to injuries from on-duty collision




A Galt Police officer who was involved in a head-on collision while on duty has succumbed to his injuries. 

The officer, Harminder Grewal, a two-and-a-half-year veteran, died yesterday according to information released by the Galt Police Department. Grewal and another officer, Kapri Herrera, were involved in the collision on Sunday, August 22.

 At about 4;30 a.m. the officers were on their way to assist in the Caldor Fire when a southbound pickup truck crossed Highway 99 and struck the patrol car that was traveling north near Dillard Road just south of Elk Grove. Both officers were placed in intensive care at UC Davis Medical Center for treatment.

The driver of the pickup died on the scene and two passengers were transferred to an area hospital for treatment.

In their social media post, the Galt Police Department said "Officer Grewal took pride in serving his community and his work ethic was contagious to all who worked with him. His service to our community will never be forgotten."
