In a construction milestone, a "topping off" ceremony for the Wilton Rancheria's Sky River casino was held in Elk Grove on Friday, August 20.

The topping-off ceremony represents the placement of the top and final piece in the steel frame structure for the casino located on Highway 99 in south Elk Grove. As is the tradition, the last beam was signed by tribal leadership and put in place with flags and a pine fir tree.

Construction of the Wilton Rancheria's casino started six months ago for a facility that will eventually include a hotel and conference center. Construction is financed by Las Vegas-based Boyd Gaming, who will also operate the casino for tribal interests and is expected to open for business in the second half of 2022.

I don't know about you all, but the first thing I'm gonna do when the casino opens is go to the souvenir shop and buy a couple postcards to add to my photo albums--one of the big white autographed beam and one of the casino with the "award-winning overpass" in the background. I can hardly wait!
