Moreno secures labor endorsements in bid for Sacramento BOS

Today Jaclyn Moreno announced several endorsements in her bid to replace Don Nottoli as the District 5 representative on the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors.

Moreno, who is in her first term as a Director with the Cosumnes Community Services District, is seeking the seat Nottoli has occupied since 1994. The other declared candidate for the position is Elk Grove City Council member Pat Hume who has served as the District 2 representative since 2006.

In a campaign update emailed today, Moreno announced labor endorsements from the AFL-CIO's Sacramento Central Labor Council, the Amalgamated Transit Union Local 256, the Sheet Metal Workers Local 104, the International Union of Elevator Constructors Local 8, and the Carpenters Local 46.

In her email, Moreno wrote, "Throughout my campaign, I've had the chance to visit several training programs that are dedicated to teaching the next generation of tradespeople. These programs ensure that we have qualified professionals ready to step up and do some of the most important jobs that keep Sacramento moving."

Aside from the possible financial support Moreno may receive from the labor organizations, they typically assist endorsed candidates in all-important phone banking and door-to-door canvasing.

If no one else enters the race and there are only two candidates, the winner most likely will be determined during the June 2022 primary. As the terms for both Hume and Moreno on their respective boards are up for election in 2022, the candidate who loses in June could conceivably run for reelection for their current position, although Hume said before declaring his supervisorial candidacy that he would not run for reelection to the Elk Grove City Council.

Although Moreno has secured many high-profile Democratic endorsements from elected official including Sacramento Mayor Darrell Steinberg, and California State Senator Dr. Richard Pan, she has not been endorsed by any of the three Democratic Elk Grove City Council members. Elk Grove's Democratic Mayor Bobbie Singh-Allen has endorsed Republican Hume as well as former Elk Grove Democratic Mayor Gary Davis, who was a candidate for the seat but subsequently dropped out of the contest.
