NASCAR's Kyle Larson to be honored by City of Elk Grove with Thanksgiving week parade

Elk Grove-based NASCAR driver Kyle Larson is being honored with a parade next week.

According to information from Sonoma Raceway, they, along with the City of Elk Grove, will host the parade to honor Larson, who won the 2021 NASCAR Cup Series championship. Larson was The City of Elk Grove's first Key to the City honoree in 2014.

The parade, which starts at 2 p.m. on Monday, November 22, will travel from Elk Grove-Florin Road and Elk Grove Boulevard east, where he will be met by dignitaries at the Old Town Plaza.

Larson, 29, won his first championship following a tumultuous period where he was suspended for one season after making offensive racial comments directed at African-Americans during a live virtual reality race in April 2020. Larson agreed to racial sensitivity training and issued an apology following the incident.

The heck with Kyle Larson! Those cars have escape hatches built into the roofs, and I wanna see the Mayor popping her head up from the hatch and waving to the crowd like the "shero" she is! Good work!
