Most recent State Senate map pair Sacramento with Elk Grove, removes West Sacramento

The State Senate boundaries posted today by the California Citizens Redistricting Commission show the most recent iteration combining Elk Grove and Sacramento.

The most significant change to what is now the 9th Senate District is the elimination of West Sacramento. Instead of being paired with Sacramento and Elk Grove, the Yolo County community is combined with Davis, Woodland, Vallejo, and portions of Napa County.

The current district is represented by Dr. Richard Pan (D - Sacramento), who will be leaving office later this year because of terms limits. The June primary to replace Pan has drawn three notable candidates and one newcomer, all Democrats.

Topping the list is former Democratic Insurance Commissioner and State Assemblymember Dave Jones. The other two elected officials are Sacramento City Councilmembers, Angelique Ashby and Eric Guerra, and newcomer Tecoy Porter

The top two finishers in the June 7 primary will advance to the November general election.
