Elk Grove City Councilmember Darren Suen reports gifts received, sale of rental property during 2021




In his annual statement of economic interests, Elk Grove District 1 City Councilmember Darren Suen reported the receipt of numerous gifts and the sale of real property.

According to his California Form 700 filed with the Elk Grove City Clerk's office, Suen reported the receipt of 11 gifts. Listed below are the benefactors, the date, and the description of each gift.
  • Pacific Gas & Electric, May 6 - Golf, $250
  • Crown Castle, August 9 -  Jalapeno Golf Classic, $250
  • Region Business, October 1 - BBQ, $200
  • Sheet Metal Local Union 101, October 1 -  D.A.D. Golf Tourney, $250
  • Association of General Contractors, October 20 - Reception, $50
  • Assemblymember Jim Cooper, October 22 - Luncheon, $75 
  • OCA Sacramento, November 3 - Reception, $50
  • Asian Pacific American Leadership Foundation, November 4 - Lodging, dinner, $566
  • Asian Pacific American Leadership Foundation, November 5 -  Breakfast, lunch, reception, $366
  • Plumbers & Pipefitters Local Union 447, December 3 - Holiday luncheon, $50
  • Sacramento Area Firefighters 522, December 9 - Holiday reception, $50
During the year, Suen also reported the sale of real property valued between $100,001 and $1,000,000. That property generated between $10,001 and $100,000 in rent.

Suen reported acquiring the property at 9355 Bennoel Way, Elk Grove, in July 2008 and disposing of it last October. However, Suen owned that property when he voted against an eviction moratorium at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic and did not disclose he owned rental property during the proceedings.
