As an open seat this election cycle, the race for the California State Assembly District 10 has attracted five candidates. While much of the attention has been focused on Sacramento City Councilmember Eric Guerra and Elk Grove City Councilmember Stephanie Nguyen, another candidate is quickly ramping up campaign activities.

That candidate, Dr. Tecoy Porter, has been engaged in early campaign activities. Porter, an Elk Grove resident, has already announced campaign mainstays.

On his Twitter and Facebook, Porter has organized two phone banking events.

Additionally, he has announced a precinct walk and campaign kickoff for Saturday, March 26. Porter and his campaign supporter will focus on South Sacramento's Meadowview neighborhood during that event.
A Democrat, a Porter, has many mainstream party policy positions on social justice, healthcare, and the economy. But, like several high-profile California Democrats who have staked out differing stances on education, Porter supports charter schools.

Among his supporters, Porter counts California Secretary of State Dr. Shirley Webber, former Elk Grove Mayor Gary Davis, former Sacramento City Councilmember Lauren Hammond, and Larry Carr. In addition, Porter, the Senior Pastor of the Genesis Church Sacramento and founder and president of the Sacramento branch of the National Action Network, has established a long list of endorsements of several Sacramento area pastors.

Most notable among them is Rev. Les Simmons of South Sacramento Christian Center. Simmons' national prominence rose during the social justice movement following the death of George Floyd and Stephon Clark.

Although Guerra and Nguyen have led in fundraising, Porter has been actively raising contributions, most notably via ActBlue, a nationwide Democratic online source. Last year Porter raised $55,646 and, through last week, received an additional $2,500.
