Independent committee formed for Moreno, Hume 'within striking distance' and Ly to hold Elk Grove fundraiser

In the competitive race for the District 5 Sacramento County Board of Supervisors seat, at least one committee has been formed to support one of the five candidates.

According to information filed with Sacramento County Voter Registration and Elections, a committee in support of Jaclyn Moreno has been organized. That committee is called Working Families for Jaclyn Moreno for Sacramento County Supervisor 2022.

The committee has been funded with two donations totaling $42,414 from the Sacramento Central Labor Council. There have been no reported expenditures.

Moreno, first elected to the Cosumnes Community Services District in 2018, is considered one of the top-tier candidates in the race, along with Elk Grove City Councilmember Pat Hume and former Elk Grove Mayor Steve Ly.

If no candidate finishes above 50-percent in the June 7 primary, the top two finishers will advance to the November general election. One elected official who asked not to be identified and not aligned with any of the campaigns claimed polling show Hume is "within striking range" of finishing above 50-percent.

Hume's campaign manager Tab Berg would not verify the information saying they do not discuss strategy with media, but noted "the elected official speaks with some authority."

The other contender in the race, former Elk Grove Mayor Steve Ly, has interestingly not reported any fundraising activities since entering the race in January. However, Ly has posted a fundraising event next month in Elk Grove.

That event is being sponsored by Asian Americans for Good Government. According to information filed by AAGG with the California Secretary of State, their most recent contribution was $2,500 received from California Northstate University last August, and they currently have a cash balance of $4,769.
