Even though it is the day to play practical jokes, former Elk Grove Mayor Gary Davis took to social media this morning with a splash.

In a Facebook posting just after 8 a.m., the former two-term mayor said he would have a big announcement at 12 p.m. today. The post said, "Big announcement at Noon today. It's time."

After the initial posting, Davis edited his comments adding "Serving as Mayor was always my favorite job."

Davis, who did not seek reelection to a third term as mayor in 2016, has been eyeing various offices as he attempts to relaunch his political career. Last year he entered the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors District 5 race but exited once Elk Grove City Councilmember Pat Hume declared his candidacy.

Within political circles, Davis had expressed a desire to run for the Elk Grove City Council District 4 seat. However, those hopes were quashed after Davis' current Elk Grove residence was moved to District 2.

See the video below of Davis' September 17, 2011 mayoral candidacy speech.

Watching the video of Mr. Davis's was an interesting stroll down memory lane in several ways.

If you start at about the video's 1 minute and 45 second mark, Mr. Davis rattles off a list of supporters. Outside of Mr. Joshua Wood of Region Business, and perhaps Mr. Brian Cooley, its worth pondering how many of these people will be in his corner this time around?

Ms. Chaires-Espinoza - No
Mr. Rod Brewer - No
Senator Dr. Richard Pan - No
Mayor Mr. Darrell Steinberg - No

It will be interesting to see who Mr. Davis lines up as his supporters, and more importantly, contributors.

Yes, Davis has burned many bridges since he first took office. Allow that to be food for thought this time around for EG voters. Why can’t this city find a true and honest leader without a hidden agenda? So sad for our community.
