Robles changes plans, to run for Elk Grove City Council District 4

Ending months of political chatter, Elk Grove Planning Commissioner Sergio Robles announced that he is modifying his political ambitions.

According to campaign documents filed last week with the Elk Grove City Clerk's office, Robles has filed paperwork showing his intent to run for the District 4 seat. That seat is held by Stephanie Nguyen, who is running for the California State Assembly 10th District seat.

Last August Robles filed paperwork showing his intent to run for the District 2 seat currently held by Pat Hume, who is leaving office as he runs for District 5 of the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors. Robles is the first declared candidate for District 4.

Although Robles declared his District 2 candidacy relatively early, since then fellow Democrat and current Cosumnes Community Services District Director Rod Brewer and business owner Felipe Martin entered the race. Martin, who has already loaned $100,000 to his campaign, has received the endorsement of Region Business and is thought to be the favored candidate for real estate developers.

Even though Nguyen is expected to be one of the two candidates to advance to the November 10th District Assembly election, she could run for reelection if she comes in third place during the June primary.

Before redistricting, former Mayor Gary Davis moved to the current District 4. When new district boundaries were approved last month by the Elk Grove City Council, Davis' residence will be in District 2 for the November elections, and he is reportedly not interested in running for that position.
