Nguyen, Guerra in statistical tie in District 10 California Assembly race

According to vote tallies released this afternoon by the Sacramento County Voters Registration and Elections, Democrats Elk Grove City Councilmember Stephanie Nguyen and Sacramento City Councilmember Eric Guerra are in a statistical tie for first place in the District 10 California Assembly race.

Today's totals show Nguyen with 26,062 votes for 29.94 percent, and Guerra has 25,761 votes for 29.49 percent. Although Nguyen has maintained her first-place standing since election day and leads Guerra by 391 votes, with each update, that lead has slipped.

Maintaining third place is the late Republican Eric Rigard, with 23,699 votes for 27.22 percent. Information posted on social media earlier this week announced the death of Rigard.

With today's update, there are less than 20,000 uncounted votes countywide. It is possible Guerra could overtake Nguyen, but if that happens, his lead will keep the race as a statistical tie.

Given the race's closeness, if Guerra and Nguyen maintain their standings, the animosity during the primary race will continue into the November general election.
