Guerra ends reporting period with more cash than Nguyen in competitive District 10 California Assembly race

In the competitive race for the District 10 California Assembly, Sacramento City Councilmember Eric Guerra with more cash on hand than his competitor. Guerra is facing fellow Democrat Elk Grove City Councilmember Stephanie Nguyen in what is considered one of the most competitive elections in the Sacramento region,

According to his California Form 460 filed with the California Secretary of State, Guerra had $122,132 for the six months ending June 30. During the same time frame, Guerra spent $671,558, received donations of $450,069, and began the year with $325,000.

Nguyen, who finished first in the five-candidate primary field, ended the six months with $90,738. Campaign expenses for the six months were $460,713, and donations were $515,643.

Since the primary, Guerra has received a $5,000 donation from the California Federation of Teachers. Nguyen has not reported any donation activity.

Although both are Democrats, their donations indicate their support and what voters Guerra and Nguyen could target for the November election. Nguyen has been considered more appealing to Republican voters than Guerra, which could assist her in Elk Grove but a liability with straight-line Democratic voters, especially in Sacramento precincts.

Endorsed by the California Democratic Party, Guerra has received financial support from traditional party patrons such as the California Nurses Associations and various labor unions. Guerra has also received support from health care and pharmaceutical businesses like Abbot Laboratories and Novartis.

While Nguyen has received support from some labor organizations, she is also supported by conservative Republicans like Elk Grove's Robert Lent and law enforcement groups such as the Long Beach Police Officers Association and Peace Officers Research Association.
