Is Ken Cooley in trouble? California Democratic County Committees funnel major cash into Assembly District 7 race

Even in states where one party has an advantage, occasionally, there are races where the minority party causes trembles for the majority. In Democratic California, one such race could be in a swing suburban Assembly district of Sacramento.

In the Rancho Cordova-Folsom-centered Assembly District 7, Republican Joshua Hoover is causing problems for incumbent Democratic Assemblymember Ken Cooley by at least one measure.

According to information complied by @CATargetAlt, today, Cooley has received $275,000 from four Democratic committees in Mendocino, Riverside, Santa Clara, and Yolo counties. Riverside Democrats donated $50,000, and the other three $75,000 each.

Cooley has been in the Assembly since 2012 and is seeking his sixth term. Considered a moderate, Colley suffered a setback when the Sacramento Bee's editorial board endorsed Hoover, a school board member in the Folsom Cordova Unified School District, and a staff member of Republican Assemblymember Kevin Kiley.

Although there is no polling available for this race, given the more conservative demographics of the 7th compared to its neighboring Assembly Districts in Sacramento and the large influx of party money, Cooley's seat could be considered at risk for the Democratic Party.

Should Hoover and Republican Elk Grove City Councilmember Pat Hume win the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors District 5 race, it would be a reversal of fortunes for Republicans. In the last several election cycles, Republican stature in Sacramento County has diminished.
