During a candidate forum this afternoon, Sacramento County District 5 Board of Supervisor Pat Hume refused to state his position on women's reproductive rights.

The League of Women Voters of Sacramento County conducted the forum at the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors chamber in downtown Sacramento. The discussion was moderated by Ms. Paula Lee of the LWV, who asked that and other questions.

While Moreno said she steadfastly defends women's reproductive rights, Hume said it is not an issue in California. After Hume responded, Moreno forcefully came back and said his unwillingness to state his position on reproductive rights in this or any format was problematic and angering.

Hume and Moreno are seeking to fill the seat held by outgoing Supervisor Don Nottoli. Hume is an Elk Grove City Councilmember and Moreno serves on the Cosumnes Community Services District Board of Supervisors.

The entire exchange can be viewed below.

A video of the entire forum will be posted this evening.

Hume’s non answer speaks volumes and is in fact an answer to where he stands on the issue of women’s reproductive health rights. He realizes that his pro life and anti choice stance is widely unpopular in a blue state. But he clings to the false perception that his supporters align with his conservative views on abortion. Statistics show that a majority of Americans support abortion access in some shape or form and oppose the reversal of Roe v Wade. Like SCOTUS, Hume is out of touch with the American electorate and does not have a pulse on what Sacramento County voters want and need as a supervisor. As such, he would be a poor choice to represent his district. If you want more evidence. Look at the city he represented for many years. I call it Stoplight Grove for all of the stoplights and unchecked growth he allowed on his watch.
