Newsom first, now Ashby receives Brown's endorsement for State Senate District 8 race

Today Sacramento City Councilmember and State Senate District 8 candidate announced she received the endorsement of former Democratic California Gov. Jerry Brown. Ashby faces fellow Democrat former California Assemblymember and Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones in an increasingly acrimonious battle.

In making the endorsement, Ashby said the four-term governor listed accomplishments as a Sacramento City Council member and pointed to her fiscal policy positions.

"Angelique Ashby knows how to balance a budget and get things done," Brown said in the announcement. "She's exactly the right leader to represent the Sacramento region in the State Senate."

Along with Brown's support, last week, Gov. Gavin Newsom also endorsed Ashby. Jones has been endorsed by the California Democratic Party and U.S. Senator Alex Padilla.

Among Elk Grove area politicians, Ashby is supported by Elk Grove Mayor Bobbie Singh-Allen, Elk Grove Vice Mayor Darren Suen and Cosumnes Community Services District Director, and Sacramento County Board of Supervisors District 5 candidate Jaclyn Moreno.

"Governor Brown is a bold, effective leader and it is an honor to have his support," Ashby said. "I hope to follow his legacy of smart, fair, and pragmatic leadership in the State Senate."
