During the Tuesday, October 18, 2022, meeting of the Elk Grove Unified School District Board of Trustees meeting, one parent related an upsetting incident in-class experienced by their child.

During public comment, Ms. Isa Geoffroy told the trustees her son and another student were addressed with derogatory slurs aimed at Blacks and African-Americans by their teacher and assistant. Ms. Geoffrey said the incident happened on Tuesday, October 11 did not provide the names of the educators or the school where it occurred.

Along with last night's comments, the Elk Grove District has faced repeated criticism over several years from parents of African-American students. The parent's objections have included concerns about the disproportionate disciplinary actions directed toward their children.

The seven-member board cannot address comments on non-agenda items. However, many parents and representatives have repeatedly testified at meetings and expressed dissatisfaction with the trustees and top district administrators, who they say are dismissive.

Geoffroy's full commentary can be viewed below. Additionally, videos of other parents' comments have been posted for review.

The EGUSD better get their act together or there will be hell to pay from the Granite Bay home builders. For years these builders have marketed their Elk Grove subdivisions by bragging about the "award-winning" school district and easy freeway access for commuters. If EGUSD doesn't turn things around soon, Granite Bay will put that easy freeway access to good use see to it that Board members and top administrators move on!
