Sacramento County Measure A $8.5 billion tax increase losing

Even though proponents of a massive $8.5 billion sales tax increase had a well-funded campaign for its passage, Sacramento County voters so far are saying No to the 40-year sales tax.
According to results posted earlier today, 54 percent or 73,172 voters have said No to the so-called Transportation Maintenance and Congestion Relief Act 2022. Yes has received 64,802 votes for 46 percent.
The controversial tax increase had no central opposition group or funding, but disparate groups coalesced in the election's final weeks, publicizing their positions. The groups opposing the measure have included the Sacramento County Republican Party and an assortment of environmental groups.
The Yes proponents had several hundred thousand dollars for their widespread advertising campaign promoting its approval.
Even though Yes is behind by eight percent, proponents are confident with many unprocessed ballots, Measure A will pass.
"A large majority of ballots haven't been counted yet, but we remain optimistic about the passage of Measure A," Joshua Wood of the Yes on Measure A committee said. "I want to thank Mayor Steinberg and the amazing coalition we built to fix our roads, improve our transit, and protect the environment."

At least one group of taxpayers is acting fiscally responsible, and this was the more reasonable and prudent of the tax increases proposed. Elk Grove just gave the council an open check book to spend this multi-million dollar tax increase anyway they see fit. Guess EG residents are flush with $$. Those struggling will pay the price dearly.
The flags are flying at half-staff at Granite Bay National Bank. The poor developers will have to pay for their own streets in the County now! But hey, freebies are still available for the taking in Elk Grove!
