High wind forecast forces closure of Sacramento County parks

Effective today, all parks operated by Sacramento County will be closed because of a high wind forecast. With saturated soil and wind gusts up to 50 m.p.h forecasted, to avoid falling trees and limbs, it was decided to close the parks.

Regional Parks Rangers and the Sacramento County Homeless Outreach Teams have been contacting individuals camping within the Parkway, urging them to move and offering shelter and other supportive services. Individuals seeking shelter are encouraged to call 2-1-1.

The American River Multi-Use and Dry Creek Parkway trails will also be closed, so bicycle commuters should find alternative routes.

This closure is expected to last through Monday, Jan. 16, with the potential to extend depending on weather and park conditions.
