Local emergency proclaimed by Elk Grove; City Hall experiencing internet outages

Following several days of damaging heavy rains, strong winds, localized flooding, and power outages, late this afternoon, the City of Elk Grove proclaimed a local emergency.

The city's proclamation of local emergency will position residents and the city to seek assistance from county, state, and federal sources to defray the cost associated with the storms. The city will incur additional costs related to clean-up from the numerous downed trees and debris spread by the storm.

In response to a request from Calif. Gov. Gavin Newsom, President Joe Biden approved a federal emergency declaration to speed up FEMA disaster relief assistance in 17 affected counties, including Sacramento.

On December 30, Elk Grove activated its emergency management response. Among the actions taken by the city include sandbag distribution and cooperation with Red Cross in operating evacuation centers in the city to serve Sacramento County residents affected by flooding and evacuation orders.

Elk Grove Police and the city's public works department have responded to hundreds of calls linked to the ongoing storms. Like many residents, Elk Grove City Hall has been dealing with sporadic internet outages from its provider, Frontier Communications.

Specific information on clean-up throughout the city has not been issued. Rains will resume early tomorrow morning, and Elk Grove is under a flood and high wind advisory.

I am surprised BSA didn't take advantage of this opportunity for a photo op in front of PW crews removing a downed tree. She must be in D.C. at another festival on a networking tour at taxpayer's dime.
