Garbage pick-up rates to increase in Elk Grove effective July 1

Among several inflation pressures facing consumers in Elk Grove is an increase in residential garbage pick-up rates.

On June 14, the Elk Grove City Council will approve a rate increase for the city's contracted garbage collector, Republic Services. According to hearing information, the rate increases range from 2.63 to 2.76 percent annually (see chart below).

Although the mayor and her city council must approve the change, the city council has consistently granted rate increases, usually unanimously. Republic Services has been a consistent contributor to the campaigns of the Elk Grove City Council.
