Suspected Shoplifter Pepper-Sprayed at Elk Grove Grocery Store

Two suspect were arrested for shoplifting at the Elk Grove Nugget Store, 

A suspected shoplifter was pepper-sprayed yesterday afternoon after a store employee thought they were under threat.

According to Elk Grove Police, two males suspects aged 18 and 16 were observed shoplifting at the Elk Grove Nugget grocery store. While-18 year old Kevin Mickens of Sacramento paid for some items, he left the store with the 16 year old with merchandise he did not pay for.

When the duo were approached by store personnel, the juvenile suspect refused to comply commands to stop and reached into his waistband as if he had a weapon. In response the store employee pepper-spayed the suspect.

Both suspect were detained until officers were arrived at the scene. Mickens was arrested and taken to the county jail while the 16-year old was taken to juvenile hall.
