An Elk Grove resident known to have an active arrest warrant was apprehended yesterday afternoon by Elk Grove Police.
According to police reports, officers observed 38-year old Alwin Santiago operating a motor vehicle near Laguna Boulevard and Santorini Drive. An enforcement stop was initiated and Santiago was detained.
A records search of a passenger in the vehicle, 28-year old Nancy Louise Bock of Elk Grove, found her to be on probation. A probation search of the vehicle led to the discovery of several pieces of reported and unreported stolen U. S. mail, as well as burglary tools.
Both suspects are being held at the county jail with Bock on a $30,000 bail and Santiago ineligible for bail from arrest warrants in Sacramento and Yolo counties.
The mail was turned over to postal inspectors for further investigation.

Hundreds of mail boxes have been broken into lately according to a post on Elk Grove Online.
You two, keep off my effin' lawn!
Lots of homes in the Vineyard area off of Calvine Road and Vineyard Rd have also been hit by mailbox theft in both community and single mail boxes. Locked or not, thieves broke into mailboxes regularly since around August 2014. Timing coincides with California's big release of non-violent criminals that the state let go b/c it doesn't have room for them in prison.
Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds
Santiago looks like a tweaker.
No wonder why our mail boxes in the neighborhood today were forced to be opened, usps left redeliver slip without any info, called local post office to report , their phone were busy the whole time!
