Video - As Delta Shores Work Progresses, Will Elk Grove's Ghost Mall Open By Black Friday 2017?

Delta Shores will draw Elk Grove shoppers

November 11, 2016 |

Elk Grove residents using I-5 to commute to their jobs in Sacramento or other area cities have undoubtedly noticed the new construction near the newly opened Cosumnes River Boulevard exit. That project called Delta Shore will include a large shopping center and residential housing.

It is unlikely the shopping center, which is said to include an RC Willey, Ross, Walmart Superstore, Hobby Lobby, Petsmart, and Regal Cinema's, will be complete by Black Friday 2017. Likewise, based on the lack of new construction and planned demolition activity at the Outlet Collection at Elk Grove, hopes that the promised opening of the unfinished shopping center by Black Friday 2017 are fading with each passing day.

At least one Elk Grove Council Member has said for the record that the owner of the shopping center, Howard Hughes Company, claimed construction could restart as late as this coming January and be completed within 10 months.  It will be worth watching activity at the Outlet Collection to see if, and when, planned demolition of about one-third of the existing structure commences.

The proposed demolition will be a good indicator if the ghost of the Elk Grove Promenade, as the unfinished shopping center was once known, will have been exorcised.
