Elk Grove News is pleased that starting today, one of our contributors will now have a weekly or near-weekly feature. The contributor will be Dan Schmitt, and it will be a podcast called "Ya gotta be Schmittin me!"Dan brings an impressive background to the new feature. Many in the community may know Dan as one of their teachers or for their children following his 30-year career instructing middle and high school students at several Elk Grove Unified District schools. While readers of Dan's opinion and feature pieces may know he is a proud native of Wisconsin, some of Dan's other background will bring a unique perspective to his broadcasts. After finishing high school in the mid-60s, Dan served honorably for four years in the United State Coast Guard. After leaving the Coast Guard, Dan stayed in Calfornia, attended San Diego State and tended bar. It was during his college years Dan met his wife, Kathy. After finishing college, but before moving north to Elk Grove, Dan and Kathy served as Peace Corps volunteers spending three years in Africa. The overseas experience whetted Dan's appetite for foreign travel so much he now regularly organizes small travel groups to Europe, with Italy being one of their favorite destinations. Now retired and a doting grandfather, we are sure you will enjoy listening to Dan's podcast on a variety of topics.
Below is the latest edition. On the right column, readers will notice a listing of the recordings.
