Probationer allegedly found in possession of loaded handgun after traffic stop by Elk Grove Police

An Elk Grove man was arrested after an early morning traffic stop after he was found in possession of a handgun in violation of his probation.

Just before 2 a.m. on Saturday, November 3, a vehicle operated by Benjamin Iwakiri, 23, was stopped near Bruceville Road and Seasons Drive by Elk Grove Police for a vehicle code violation. After learning Iwakiri was on probation, a search of his vehicle led to the discovery of a loaded concealed handgun.

Iwakiri was arrested for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a concealed firearm, possession of a concealed firearm not the registered owner, possession of ammunition by a convicted felon and violating the terms of his probation. After being booked into the county jail, Iwakiri was released custody later that day.
