Mayor Singh-Allen says Historic Downtown Elk Grove has the potential to become another San Diego Gaslamp Quarter

In Elk Grove's 23 years as a California general law city, there has been an ongoing effort to resurrect the area known as Old Town. Some of the steps have achieved modest gains, while others failed.
In the last few years, efforts have been more fruitful. Along with the opening of the Old Town Plaza facility, the Dustbowl taproom has attracted more people to the area.
During the Wednesday, June 14, Elk Grove City Council meeting, a presentation explained a marketing program for the district now being called Historic Elk Grove.
While there has been progress in Historic Elk Grove, what are the upper limits? Watch the video to see Elk Grove Mayor Bobbie Singh Allen's assessment of what she thinks the upper limits are in the district.

Have you've drinking too much of your own Kool-Aid? Gaslamp Quarter? Really? "Historic" Old Town can't even keep a farmer's market going!
Well... I guess if you don't believe it no one else will. For starters, the Gaslamp district is flanked by Petco Park, an outdoor shopping mall, AND the San Diego Convention Center.
I would ask the Mayor to go visit downtown Lodi some weekend. With shops, restaurants, and walkability, it is always bustling with what seems like locals and out-of-towners. Yes, the wine country accessibility helps. If Elk Grove can create half of what downtown Lodi has created, I would be thoroughly impressed. Unfortunately, poor city planning has led me to believe that the "Historic Elk Grove" ceiling is low. As DJ mentioned, we couldn't even keep a farmer's market due to a lack of participation. In "HEG", there isn't even a locally-owned coffee shop.
I wonder what the city planners of Sacramento compare the rejuvantion of Broadway, or Del Paso Blvd to? Maybe West Sacramento city planners are comparing the river walk to the San Antonio River walk?
The historic Gaslamp District is a nightlife destination. Tons of bars stacked side by side from each other. Excessive drinking and partying take place and sometimes things get out of hand, and the police have to pull people over and arrest individuals... you know where I am going with this!
And to think she is on the board of Visit California! What does that say about the board?
