Voices of Elk Grove - EGUSD Trustees warned 'God will not be mocked' while urging removal of books from school libraries

EGUSD Trustees warned not to mock God during the June 13, 2023, meeting. |

During the Tuesday, June 13, 2023, Elk Grove Unified School District meeting, Trustees were issued a Biblical-based warning.

Ms. Lorie Gardner warned the Trustees, "God will not be mocked" during the public comment section of the meeting. Along with several other people speaking, the school district was criticized for having books in district school libraries they characterized as pornography, several of which covered LGBTQ+ topics.

Throughout the 2022-23 school year, many parents have regularly spoken during the public comment section of twice-monthly trustees meetings. While all have complained that certain books found in Elk Grove School libraries were inappropriate for children, many have Biblical-based comments.

Among them was Gardner. During her three-minute allotment, about two minutes were used to cite Biblical verses condemning the trustees and the books.

Along with warning trustees that placement of the books in libraries was mocking God, citing Luke 17:2,  Gardner also warned trustees of impending doom.

"'It would be better to be thrown in the sea with a millstone around your neck than to cause one of these little ones to fall into sin,'" she said. "His words, not ours. We are not your judge. The creator is."

Gardner's full commentary can be viewed in the video.
