The attorneys have been on strike since August 26, and a top demand is at least a five percent pay increase (see below). In addition to wages, the attorneys say there is a high turnover, given the less-than-competitive salaries compared to other nearby counties.
According to Association president Matt Chisholm, who was on today's picket line, the county has not been bargaining in good faith. He cited an email the association received last night from the county's negotiation team.
Chisholm said the email told the association that if the attorneys ended their strike, their county's offer would be revealed. Along with several striking attorneys, Chisholm said the county's request was unreasonable and unacceptable.
During the Wednesday, September 4, Sacramento County Board of Supervisors meeting, District Attorney Thien Ho spoke in support of the attorneys. Ho also criticized the county's chief executive officer, David Villanueva, and the primary labor negotiator, Matt Connelly.
As part of today's picket, the attorney presented a symbolic empty table for negotiations with a sign that read, "Where are you, Dave?"
