Bicyclist Killed in Elk Grove

On September 21, 2010 at 7:28 a.m., the Elk Grove Police Department responded to a collision involving a vehicle and bicyclist at Lewis Stein Rd. and Sheldon Rd.   
 
Upon arrival, officers discovered that a Honda minivan travelling eastbound on Sheldon Rd. had struck a bicyclist who was riding across Sheldon Rd. (south to north) near the marked crosswalk.  As a result of the collision, the unidentified adult male bicyclist was thrown from his bicycle into the front windshield of the minivan.  The bicyclist suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene.  The identity of the bicyclist will be released by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office.  
 
The 36-year-old male driver of the vehicle involved in the collision was contacted at the scene by officers.  A juvenile passenger in the minivan suffered minor injuries from debris and was transported to a local area hospital.  The collision is under investigation by Elk Grove Police Department Traffic Bureau.  Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call (916) 478-8148.
