Sunday night's murder in Elk Grove centered on a drug deal for a legal though heavily abused prescription drug, OxyContin.

According to a story in today's Sacramento Bee, murder suspect Ryan Hays killed 19-year-old Joseph Oropesa after Oropesa bought 13 OxyContin pills from Hays for $400. Immediately after the sale, Hays stole the car Oropesa had used that night and then shot him in the face.

Oropesa died a short while later and Hays was apprehended and arrested Wednesday in rural Stanislaus County.

Hays, who was nicknamed "Heff," allegedly was a known drug dealer in Elk Grove according to information in the arrest warrant. One comment posted on this site alleged Hays was a known Elk Grove drug dealer.

OxyContin, a prescription pain relieving medication is widely abused across all social and economic classes. The drug is nicknamed "hillbilly heroin" because of its origins of popularity coming poor rural areas from Appalachia and its abusers have included radio personality Rush Limbaugh.

Wonder how Heff got to Dimples from Stanislaus County to make the deal in the first place?

(roll tape of Beverly Hillbillies truck traveling down Elk Grove-Florin, Heff behind the wheel)

"Come and listen to a story about a man named Heff
A poor mountaineer, barely kept his family fed,
Then one day he was shootin at some dude,
And up through the ground came a bubblin crude.

Hillbilly Heroin, black gold, Elk Grove tea.

Well the first thing you know ol Heff's a felon,
Kinfolk said "Elk Grove suburbanites move away from there"
Said "Californy is NOT the place you ought to be"
So they loaded up the truck and moved to Nevada.

Silver State, that is. Swimmin pools, no state taxes.

Well now its time to say good bye to Heff and all his kin.
And they would like to thank you folks fer kindly droppin in.
You're all invited back a gain to this locality
To have a heapin helpin of their hospitality

Hillybilly Heroin that is. Set a spell, Take your shoes off.

Y'all come back now, y'hear?.
