Elk Grove Mayoral Candidate Kevin Spease Earns Endorsement of Rival's Co-workers

October 25, 2016 |

In the never ending pursuit of support, Elk Grove Planning Commissioner and mayoral candidate Kevin Spease today announced he has received what might be the race's most ironic to date - the endorsement of California School Employees Association. Chapter 480.

The irony is that according to Spease's campaign, The CSEA Chapter 480 counts among its members one of his six rivals, Elk Grove Vice Mayor Steve Ly. The CSEA Chapter 480 represents primarily non-teacher employees at the Sacramento County Office of Education.

An employee of the Sacramento County Office of Education, Ly, by his own accounts, has presented himself alternatively as either a teacher or counselor at the Sacramento County Juvenile Hall.

“It is ironic because these are Steve Ly’s colleagues,” Spease campaign consultant Tab Berg said. “The [Elk Grove] Police Officer [Association] and Elk Grove Chamber of Commerce that Ly has worked with for two years, Elk Grove School Board members, and now even Ly’s own union have endorsed Kevin Spease. Apparently those who know Steve Ly best, support Kevin Spease for Mayor.”

Spease has also earned the endorsements of Elk Grove Unified School District Board President Bobbie Singh-Allen. Ly served as a Trustee on the EGUSD board for a little less than two years before bolting to the Elk Grove City Council in 2014.
