Eyewitness Helps Elk Grove Police Apprehend Juvenile Burglary Suspects

November 22, 2016 |

Three juveniles were taken into custody early yesterday afternoon on suspicion of breaking into an Elk Grove residence after they were spotted by an eagle-eyed neighbor.

Elk Grove Police officers were dispatched to the 9300 block of Katelynn Court after a neighbor noticed a house being burglarized. The witness reported that two individuals had entered that backyard of a residence while a third person stayed in front of the home to act as a lookout.

The witness provided real-time updates as officers were responding. When officers arrived at the location, the lookout was no longer in front of the residence.

As officers approached the residence,  a 15-year old male and a 17-year old male fled westbound from the backyard and the third suspect, a 17-year old male, fled in a northbound direction.

Additional officers had positioned themselves to cover possible escape paths that the suspects might utilize. Once the three suspects fled the location, they were all taken into custody.

Officers confirmed that the residence had been burglarized, and two of the juveniles were allegedly found in possession of property that had been stolen from the residence. The three suspects were processed and booked into juvenile hall.
