Elk Grove Traffic Stop Leads to Discovery of 250 Marijuana Plants, Grow Operation

A traffic stop by Elk Grove Police led to the discovery of an illegal marijuana grow operation.

On the afternoon of Friday, March 3, a vehicle being operated by Ruitai Liu (pictured above left), 52, of Elk Grove, was stopped by patrol officers near Lewis Stein and Sheldon roads for a code violation. A records check revealed the Liu was on probation.

A search of the suspects' residence led to the discovery of over 250 plants and indicia of sales. Two other people, Hui Fang Jiang (pictured above right), 46, and Zhijin Liu, 25, were at the residence on the 8200 block of Toad Hollow Way near Monterey Trail High School were also arrested.

The elder Liu is ineligible for release for probation violation, the younger Liu is being held on $10,000 bail for four felony charges, and Jiang is being held of $40,000 bail for probation violation and four felony charges and will be eligible for bail on March 28. All three suspects are scheduled for arraignment on Tuesday, March 7.
