Out With the Shade Trees, In With Solar Panels at Elk Grove's Wackford Center

April 11, 2017 |

The removal of parking lot shade trees for installment of solar panels at the Cosumnes Community Services District's Wackford Community and Aquatic Complex has begun.

The project, which is part of the CCSD's sustainability program, is expected to help generate savings to expand and enhance its services and reduce its environmental impact. The energy generated from the solar canopies will supply most of the energy needs for the Wackford Complex.

Shade trees are being removed in order to make way for the canopies. To offset this loss, the CSD will be performing a replanting ceremony of 50 trees along the jogging path in Elk Grove Regional Park on the morning of April 22, as part of the Community Day of Service event.

Information regarding the project and the tree removal was mailed to residents within 500 feet of the park and presented at a series of public outreach meetings last fall.

Project completion is expected by early this summer.
